In pursuing its Mission, Family Concepts Center will address six strategic objectives:
- To increase the availability of Social and Economic development information and services, to young people with particular emphasis on vulnerable groups.
- To increase access of young people, particularly vulnerable groups, to Vocational education, apprenticeship and Life skills that integrate Social and Economic development information into youth programs.
- To increase the availability of quality social support services to young people, in particular, vulnerable groups
- Launch and implement a Youth Mentorship Program to encourage, guide, and support young people from poor backgrounds to meet career, professional and personal development goals.
- Launch and implement a Road to Success (RTS) Coaching program for young people.
- To build an effective system of strategic partners that ensures quality and cost-effective delivery of Social and Economic Development Information and services to vulnerable young people.
Strategic actions
The following are the strategic actions under each strategic objective:Strategic Objective 1:
To increase the availability of Social and Economic development information and services, (including Family Planning, STI/HIV prevention information and services, and HIV counselling and testing) to young people with particular emphasis on vulnerable groupsStrategic Actions
- Strengthen FCC to provide a package of SRH and HIV prevention information and services. The Center will partner with public and private-not-profit health units to extend HCT and referral services to young people.
- Support the establishment of Youth Corners. Family Concepts Center will partner with the management of HC IIIs and private-not-profit health facilities to establish and run Youth Friendly corners as structures for the delivery of SRH and HIV prevention information and services to young people. FCC will equip the Youth Corners, train service providers in YFS and HIV prevention counselling, Train Youth Peer Educators and provide support supervision to the Youth Corners.
- Provide outreach services to youth corners and strategic institutions. FCC will build a team of Providers to provide the FCC service package at Youth corners and at strategic institutions
- Support strategic partners (Religious bodies, schools, Youth corners, institutions) to provide SRH and HIV prevention information through a multi-Media approach: FCC will develop/Adapt culturally sensitive IEC materials on safer sexual behavior, emphasizing the ABC strategy, HCT and health-seeking behavior including utilization of SRH and HIV related services. The Center will train personnel in strategic institutions in communication skills and support information-sharing forums for information dissemination.
Strategic Objective 2:
To increase access of young people, particularly vulnerable groups, to Vocational education, apprenticeship and Life skills that integrate Social and Economic development information and HIV prevention and treatment awarenessStrategic Actions
- Scale up the vocational skills training at Family Concepts Center and integrate the training with Social and Economic development information, HIV prevention information and Life skills development. The Center will continue to offer tailoring, hairdressing, knitting, crocheting and catering courses to the vulnerable young people. The skills trades will be modernized by procuring modern equipment and engaging more professional trainers. Family Concepts Center will increase the scope of vocational training by introducing computer training and secretarial courses. Training to vulnerable young people will be offered free of charge but proceeds from services given by the trainees will be ploughed back to sustain the vocational training activities. All trainees at the Vocational training courses will be exposed to Social and Economic development information (including Business and financial literacy), HIV prevention information and Life skills development.
- Support Internship/apprenticeship programs for young people on vocational skills programs. Family Concepts Center will forge partnerships with strategic vocational institutions and attach and support vocational skills trainees to the institutions. This will help the trainees to gain more skills in the trade of their choice and also expose them to a positive work ethic
- Establish, furnish, and run a Business Incubation Center
- Institutional capacity development of youth-led CBOs
- Establishment and training of micro-enterprise livelihood groups through the master crafts
- Support strategic social, religious, health, economic and cultural institutions to develop young people’s Life Skills integrated with HIV prevention. FCC will conduct Life Skills training integrated with HIV prevention for Managers, supervisors and staff of strategic institutions and equip them to provide Life skills training, HIV prevention information and Social and Economic development information and services to young people under their supervision and Peers.
Strategic Objective 3:
To increase the availability of quality social support services to young people, in particular, vulnerable groupsStrategic Actions
- Provide a package of social support services to vulnerable young people: FCC will work with partners to assess the social needs of vulnerable young people and provide social support services including health services, psycho-social support (Counseling), and Education support. The Center will engage Nurse-Counselors and work with strategic partners to offer counselling services to young people.
- Empower families to provide psychosocial support to vulnerable young people. The Center will sensitize guardians on the plight of vulnerable young people, and the need to provide them with spiritual and emotional support. FCC will also train guardians in care for vulnerable children, stigma and discrimination reduction and entrepreneur skills.
- Support supervision to OVC families: The Center will work with partners to establish support supervision teams and undertake visits to the homes of vulnerable people for psychosocial support. FCC will train home visiting teams and design/adapt operational guidelines for psychosocial support

- Promote digital inclusion and innovation among young people
- Improve workplace engagement among prospective employees and employers.
Strategic Objective 5:
Launch and implement a Road to Success (RTS) Coaching program for young peopleStrategic Actions:
Support young people to identify and define their Life purpose- Help young people to develop goals, address the challenges that they face in the journey toward achieving their goals and discover the opportunities available to them
- Support young people to uncover any hidden problems that may be sabotaging their desired results
- Support young people to develop action plans (road maps) and implement them so that they finally get the results they want
Strategic Objective 6:
To build an effective system of strategic partners that ensures quality and cost-effective delivery of Social and Economic Development Information and services, (including HIV prevention information and services) to vulnerable young peopleStrategic Actions:
- Position Family Concepts Center as a leader in socioeconomic development information and service delivery for young people. Family Concepts Center will strengthen its physical and institutional infrastructure to enhance its functionality as a corporate body and build its capacity to assume leadership in the delivery of Social and Economic development information and services to young people. In particular, FCC will re-organize its premises to improve client flow and ensure privacy. The Center will actively build its Membership and Executive Board in accordance with the Constitution. Constitutional guidelines will be developed to clarify constitutional articles that may not be clear and align them with the Center’s Vision and goals. The Center will also restructure the organization and align it with the strategic actions in the Strategy. An Operational manual will be developed to guide the Center’s financial, human resource and management functions and skilled personnel will be recruited. The Center will also train its staff in the relevant areas including Social and Economic Development Information and Youth friendly services
- Establish and coordinate strategic partnerships for information and service delivery: Family Concepts Center will identify strategic partners amongst religious, public and private institutions and coordinate them through strategic meetings and activities. In particular, FCC will partner with public Health Centers, Private-not-profit health facilities, schools, organized business organizations and religious institutions, young people’s groups and networks and encourage them to be part of a system for information and service delivery.
- Build the management and leadership capabilities of institutions and structures to address young peoples’ issues and challenges. Personnel from strategic institutions and organizations will be sensitized on the plight of young people, the issues and challenges young people face and the need for youth-friendly information and services. The management and leadership capabilities of key personnel will be assessed and gaps with respect to addressing young people’s challenges identified. Family Concepts Center with technical assistance from a consultant will develop a tailor-mode leadership program with particular emphasis on youth programs and conduct leadership development training for its strategic partners. Key personnel will also be trained in Social and Economic development information and services and youth-friendly services. FCC will support and mentor the emerging leaders among FCC strategic partners through on-the-job education and supervision using operational guidelines adapted for the purpose. Key outputs of this strategy will include organizations having plans aligned to support young people’s decision-making and behavior change, and the existence of systematic procedures for the development of life and leadership skills of young people within the organization.
