Diana Wesesa’s Testimonial
My name is Diana Wesesa, a 26-year-old passionate about the environment and education. I hold a degree in Development Studies from Makerere University. Currently, I volunteer with the Building Tomorrow Fellowship in Iganga District as a Roots to Rise Ambassador, promoting literacy and numeracy for underserved primary school children.
Growing up in Namagumba village, where education was undervalued, I vowed to complete my education despite my family’s struggles. Achieving my degree was a significant milestone, reinforcing my belief that education is a powerful tool for community transformation.
My role involves reaching remote communities on a motorcycle, and despite a near-fatal accident, my commitment to community empowerment remains unshaken. Experiencing menstrual hygiene challenges during my youth inspired me to volunteer with Girls Alive Uganda, teaching young girls to make reusable sanitary towels and maintain menstrual hygiene. This initiative has empowered girls and women in ten schools and four villages.
Recognizing the impact of inadequate menstrual hygiene on education, my peers and I innovated by creating eco-friendly sanitary pads from banana fibers. This solution addresses both affordability and environmental concerns.
I am grateful to the Family Concepts Center for providing me with a platform to share my story and drive positive change. I look forward to building a sustainable, greener future for generations to come.
